CreateOS Sandbox vs Archil
Archil is the stronger choice when many sandboxes must work on the same large dataset in S3, GCS or R2, because its shared POSIX disk mounts into all of them. CreateOS Sandbox is the stronger choice when you want custom egress rules on any plan, no per-GB egress fee, no 24-hour session ceiling and lower compute rates. Both run Firecracker micro-VMs with pause and fork.
Pricing at a Glance
CreateOS rates verified 17 October 2026. Archil pricing as published on 17 October 2026. Rates billed per GB rather than per GiB, or as bundled sizes, are quoted as published rather than converted.
CreateOS Sandbox
Lower compute rate- Compute
- $0.0362 /vCPU-hr
- Memory
- $0.0116 /GiB-hr
Archil
- Compute
- $0.0550 /vCPU-hr
- Memory

Archil sandboxes bill $0.055 per vCPU-hour and $0.020 per GiB-hour, active storage $0.20 per GiB-month and data out $0.07 per GB, with a $10/month Developer minimum and a $500/month Team minimum, as of 17 October 2026.
Where CreateOS Sandbox Fits Better
What CreateOS Sandbox brings to this matchup, with a plain note on where Archil has the edge.
Compute at $0.03616363 per vCPU-hour and $0.01159025 per GiB-hour, against Archil's $0.055 and $0.020.
No per-GB egress fee (50 GiB bandwidth budget per sandbox by default); Archil charges $0.07 per GB out.
Custom allowlist rules on every plan; Archil's Developer plan is limited to a managed allowlist, with custom rules from Team.
No session cap, where an Archil sandbox pauses after at most 86,400 seconds.
Where Archil is strong
Its core is a shared, bucket-backed POSIX disk that many sandboxes mount at once, so parallel agents can work on the same large dataset without copying it into each sandbox.
Which to Pick
Pick CreateOS Sandbox if
- Your agents send a lot of data out and per-GB egress fees add up.
- You need custom egress rules without a $500/month plan minimum.
- Sessions must run past 24 hours without an automatic pause.
Pick Archil if
- Parallel agents need the same bucket-backed dataset without copying it.
- You need up to 32 vCPU or 64 GiB, or 250 or more concurrent sandboxes.
- You want to fork a running sandbox, not only a paused one.
Head-to-Head Comparison
Every dimension side by side, checked on 17 October 2026 against each vendor's own docs and pricing pages. "Not published" means we could not find it on the vendor's pages, not that the feature is missing.
| Dimension | CreateOS Sandbox | Archil |
|---|---|---|
| Isolation | Firecracker micro-VM with its own guest kernel | Firecracker micro-VM with its own kernel and persistent root disk |
| Pause and resume | Pause saves disk, memory and CPU state; vCPU stops billing, memory and storage still bill | Pause snapshots memory and disk; stop keeps the disk only |
| Fork | Yes, fork a paused sandbox into many independent copies | Yes, from running, paused or stopped sandboxes (running ones pause during the snapshot) |
| Outbound network default | Open with no rules; deny-by-default once any host, IP, CIDR or wildcard rule exists, enforced on the host outside the VM | Developer: managed allowlist only; custom allow/deny with hostname and CIDR rules from Team |
| Inbound access | Closed by default; opt-in public HTTPS URL | Public TLS ports with no auth, or private with port tokens; stable hostnames |
| Largest size | 8 vCPU / 16 GB on Enterprise; 8 vCPU / 8 GB on Pro | Up to 32 vCPU and 64 GiB, x86-64 |
| Concurrency | 1 / 5 / 20 / 30 by plan; paused sandboxes count toward the cap | Free 5, Developer 20, Team 250, Enterprise unlimited |
| Session length | No cap; idle auto-pause 60 s to 24 h, off by default | maxTtlSeconds up to 86,400 s (default), then pause |
| Billing | Per second: $0.03616363 per vCPU-hour, $0.01159025 per GiB-hour, storage $0.0001584 per GB-hour; no egress fees, 50 GiB bandwidth budget per sandbox | $0.055 per vCPU-hour, $0.020 per GiB-hour, $0.07 per GB out; plan minimums |
| GPU | No GPU shapes | No |
Common Questions
Can several Archil sandboxes share one disk?
Yes. Archil's core product is a POSIX disk backed by S3, GCS or R2 that many sandboxes can mount at once. On CreateOS Sandbox, plans from Beginner up can mount your own S3-compatible storage, such as AWS S3, Cloudflare R2, Tigris or MinIO, as disks.
Does Archil charge for egress?
Yes, $0.07 per GB of data transferred out of Archil. CreateOS Sandbox has no per-GB egress fee; each sandbox has a 50 GiB outbound bandwidth budget by default, and recharging beyond it consumes account credit.
Which Archil plan allows custom firewall rules?
Team and above. The Developer plan allows only a managed allowlist of package registries, Git hosts, container registries, OS mirrors and model APIs. In CreateOS Sandbox, any plan can add host, IP, CIDR or wildcard rules.
How long can an Archil sandbox run?
Up to 86,400 seconds (24 hours) under maxTtlSeconds, after which it pauses with processes intact. CreateOS Sandbox has no lifetime cap, and idle auto-pause is optional and off by default.
