CreateOS Sandbox vs Replit

Replit is the right pick for a person who wants an AI agent to build and host an app in one browser tab. CreateOS Sandbox is the right pick for developers whose own agent or backend needs to create isolated machines by API, run code in them and tear them down. One is a product you use; the other is infrastructure you build on.

Pricing at a Glance

CreateOS rates verified 17 October 2026. Replit pricing as published on 17 October 2026. Rates billed per GB rather than per GiB, or as bundled sizes, are quoted as published rather than converted.

CreateOS Sandbox

Compute
$0.0362 /vCPU-hr
Memory
$0.0116 /GiB-hr
No egress fees, 50 GiB bandwidth budgetvCPU stops billing while paused

Replit

Replit Core is $20/month and Pro $100/month with matching usage credit; Autoscale deployments cost $2/month plus $0.60 per million compute units, and Reserved VMs run $15 to $130/month, as of 17 October 2026.

Where CreateOS Sandbox Fits Better

What CreateOS Sandbox brings to this matchup, with a plain note on where Replit has the edge.

A public sandbox API with six SDKs, a CLI, MCP and REST; Replit publishes no sandbox SDK.

Each sandbox is a Firecracker micro-VM today, where Replit uses hardened containers and says a move to microVMs is in progress.

Published egress rules, session rules and plan limits; Replit does not document environment lifetimes or egress controls.

Where Replit is strong

The shortest path from an idea to a hosted app for people who do not want to set up tools. Editor, agent, database and deployment all live in one browser tab.

Which to Pick

Pick CreateOS Sandbox if

  • Your own agent needs to spin up machines by API
  • You need per-sandbox egress rules
  • You want to pause, fork and resume environments from code

Pick Replit if

  • You want an agent to build and host an app for you, with no code setup
  • You collaborate in a browser IDE
  • You want database rollback of up to 28 days (Pro)

Head-to-Head Comparison

Common Questions

Does Replit have an API for creating sandboxes?

Replit does not publish a sandbox SDK; its workflow runs through the browser IDE, the mobile app and Replit Agent. CreateOS Sandbox is API-first: REST, a CLI, an MCP server and SDKs for TypeScript, Go, Python, Rust, C# and Java, all except TypeScript pre-1.0.

What isolation does Replit use for projects?

Replit states that each project runs in its own hardened Linux container with seccomp-bpf policies, that each customer gets a separate Google Cloud project, and that a move to microVMs is in progress. Each CreateOS sandbox already runs in a Firecracker micro-VM with its own guest kernel.

How many agents can run at once on Replit Pro?

Replit Pro allows 10 parallel agents; other environment concurrency limits are not published. CreateOS caps concurrent sandboxes by plan at 1, 5, 20 and 30, and paused sandboxes count toward that cap.
