CreateOS Sandbox vs Volcano Engine AgentKit
If you build agents on Volcano Engine with VeADK and AgentKit Runtime, its built-in sandbox is the first-party choice. If you need a standalone sandbox for agent code with published isolation, egress rules and per-second rates, pick CreateOS Sandbox. AgentKit sandbox sessions expire after 30 minutes by default, and sandbox pricing is not published.
Pricing at a Glance
CreateOS rates verified 17 October 2026. Volcano Engine AgentKit pricing as published on 17 October 2026. Rates billed per GB rather than per GiB, or as bundled sizes, are quoted as published rather than converted.

Where CreateOS Sandbox Fits Better
What CreateOS Sandbox brings to this matchup, with a plain note on where Volcano Engine AgentKit has the edge.
Published isolation: each sandbox is a Firecracker micro-VM with its own guest kernel.
No 30-minute default expiry; a sandbox runs until you pause or destroy it.
Per-second rates on a public page, $0.03616363 per vCPU-hour and $0.01159025 per GiB-hour, in eu and us regions.
Where Volcano Engine AgentKit is strong
AgentKit bundles the sandbox with agent runtime, memory, knowledge and gateway services as one managed suite inside Volcano Engine, so teams building on ByteDance's cloud and models need no separate vendors.
Which to Pick
Pick CreateOS Sandbox if

- You need published isolation, egress and pricing details before you build.
Pick Volcano Engine AgentKit if
- You already deploy agents on AgentKit Runtime or build with VeADK.
- Your users and data are in China.
Head-to-Head Comparison
Every dimension side by side, checked on 17 October 2026 against each vendor's own docs and pricing pages. "Not published" means we could not find it on the vendor's pages, not that the feature is missing.
| Dimension | CreateOS Sandbox | Volcano Engine AgentKit |
|---|---|---|
| Isolation | Firecracker micro-VM with its own guest kernel | Not published (independent sandbox per session_id) |
| Pause and resume | Saves disk, memory and CPU state; vCPU billing stops while paused, memory and storage still bill | Not published (instance reused by session_id until it expires) |
| Fork | Fork a paused sandbox into many independent copies | Not published |
| Outbound network default | Open with no rules; deny-by-default once any host, IP, CIDR or wildcard rule exists, enforced on the host outside the VM | Not published |
| Session length | No cap; optional idle auto-pause from 60 s to 24 h, off by default | 30 minutes by default, then destroyed; maximum not published |
| Billing | Per second: $0.03616363 per vCPU-hour, $0.01159025 per GiB-hour, storage $0.0001584 per GB-hour; no egress fees (50 GiB bandwidth budget per sandbox) | Not published |
| SDKs and interfaces | TypeScript, Go, Python, Rust, C#, Java (all but TypeScript pre-1.0), CLI, MCP, REST | Python agentkit-sdk-python and VeADK; Volcengine OpenAPI InvokeTool |
Common Questions
How long does a Volcano Engine AgentKit sandbox live?
Each sandbox session instance is valid for 30 minutes by default and then destroyed; a maximum is not published. Calls with the same session_id reuse the instance and its execution context. CreateOS has no lifetime cap on a sandbox.
Can I use the AgentKit sandbox outside Volcano Engine?
It is a managed Volcano Engine service called through Volcengine OpenAPI with access keys, and its documentation is mostly Chinese and console-driven. CreateOS Sandbox is a standalone API with REST, CLI, MCP and six SDKs that any agent code can call.
What does the AgentKit sandbox include?
Code execution, browser automation, terminal and file operations in one sandbox, offered as AgentKit's built-in tools. CreateOS offers devbox:1, with agent CLIs and Docker installed, and desktop:1, with an XFCE desktop, Chrome and a computer-use API.
