Run Omnara Agents on CreateOS Sandbox: Open-Source Managed Agents on Isolated MicroVMs

Since 6 October, CreateOS Sandbox is a built-in machine provider for Omnara. Omnara is an open-source platform for running managed agents, and it now ships with CreateOS as a first-class pool provider alongside Blaxel, Daytona, Modal, and Unikraft.

This means any Omnara organization can connect its own CreateOS account and run every agent on a CreateOS microVM with its own kernel and network identity.

What This Integration Looks Like

Omnara handles the agent loop: model calls, state, history, and permissions. When the agent needs to run code, execute commands, or process files, Omnara sends those to a machine. With CreateOS as the provider, that machine is a Firecracker microVM with a dedicated guest kernel, one per agent, kept across the agent's turns. The provider ships inside Omnara itself. There is nothing to install on your side.

How to Set Up Omnara on CreateOS Sandbox

Before you begin, have access to your CreateOS account and the Omnara organization where the agents will run. Decide which machine shape and root filesystem you want to use, and what per-machine maximums and pool capacity limits fit your workload.

Setup takes a few steps:

  1. Create a CreateOS API key. In the CreateOS dashboard, open Profile Settings, go to API Keys, and create a key. Store it in Omnara as an org-owned secret.
  2. Choose a shape and root filesystem. The shape sets each machine's CPU and memory (for example, s-2vcpu-4gb). The root filesystem is the image each machine boots from. devbox:1 works out of the box and already carries Python, Node.js, Bun, Go, Rust, and Docker. For your own toolchain, build a template from a Dockerfile once and use the template's name instead.
  3. Create the pool. On Omnara's Machines page, choose New pool, then CreateOS. Fill in the credential, shape, root filesystem, per-machine maximums, and capacity limits.

That is it. From then on, Omnara provisions machines through the CreateOS API every time an agent needs one.

What Makes This Different

Most managed agent platforms run everything on one vendor's infrastructure. Omnara is open source and model-agnostic. You bring your own models, tools, and machines. CreateOS provides the machine layer with full isolation: each agent gets its own kernel, its own filesystem, and its own network identity. Nothing is shared with the host or with another tenant.
