CreateOS Sandbox vs Koyeb
Pick Koyeb if you already deploy web services or GPU inference on Koyeb and want sandboxes on the same bill across its regions. Pick CreateOS Sandbox if you need documented memory-preserving pause, fork and egress rules, or a free plan to start.
Koyeb labels its sandboxes public preview, and Koyeb announced on 17 February 2026 that it is joining Mistral AI; new sign-ups are limited to Pro and above.
Pricing at a Glance
CreateOS rates verified 17 October 2026. Koyeb pricing as published on 17 October 2026. Rates billed per GB rather than per GiB, or as bundled sizes, are quoted as published rather than converted.
CreateOS Sandbox
- Compute
- $0.0362 /vCPU-hr
- Memory
- $0.0116 /GiB-hr
Koyeb
Koyeb bills per second by instance type, for example $0.000008 per second ($0.0288 per hour) for eco-large 2 vCPU / 4 GB, on top of Pro at $29 per month or Scale at $299 per month, as of 17 October 2026.
Where CreateOS Sandbox Fits Better
What CreateOS Sandbox brings to this matchup, with a plain note on where Koyeb has the edge.
Pause is documented to save disk, memory and CPU state; Koyeb does not publish memory preservation for sandboxes on sleep.
Documented egress rules by host, IP, CIDR or wildcard; Koyeb's sandbox egress default and controls are not published.
A Free plan with 500 credits and no card; Koyeb sandboxes need a paid plan, with new sign-ups on Pro ($29 per month) and above.
Fork a paused sandbox into many copies; Koyeb does not publish a fork feature.
Where Koyeb is strong
One Koyeb account covers sandboxes, autoscaled web services and a broad GPU catalogue from RTX 4000 SFF Ada to B200, billed per second across Frankfurt, Washington D.C., Singapore, Tokyo, Paris and more.
Which to Pick
Pick CreateOS Sandbox if
- You need egress rules you can point to in documentation.
- You want to start on a free plan.
- You need to fork a prepared sandbox state.
Pick Koyeb if
- You already run services or GPU inference on Koyeb.
- You need regions in Asia such as Singapore or Tokyo.
- You want scale-to-zero sandboxes that wake on request.
Head-to-Head Comparison
Every dimension side by side, checked on 17 October 2026 against each vendor's own docs and pricing pages. "Not published" means we could not find it on the vendor's pages, not that the feature is missing.
| Dimension | CreateOS Sandbox | Koyeb |
|---|---|---|
| Isolation | Firecracker micro-VM with its own guest kernel | Micro-VMs on Cloud Hypervisor, on bare metal (vendor-stated) |
| Pause and resume | Saves disk, memory and CPU state; vCPU billing stops, memory and storage still bill | Scale to zero with light and deep sleep, wake on request; memory on sleep not published |
| Fork | Forks a paused sandbox into many independent copies | Not published |
| Outbound network default | Open with no rules; deny-by-default once any host, IP, CIDR or wildcard rule exists, enforced on the host outside the VM | Not published |
| Inbound access | Closed by default; opt-in HTTPS URL | Expose internal ports through the SDK with a TCP proxy |
| Largest size | 8 vCPU / 16 GB on Enterprise; 8 vCPU / 8 GB on Pro | Platform instances to 40 vCPU / 128 GB; sandbox instance types not stated |
| Concurrency | 1 / 5 / 20 / 30 by plan (Free to Enterprise); paused sandboxes count | Pro 100 CPU / 20 GPU; Scale 1,000 CPU / 40 GPU; Enterprise custom |
| Session length | No cap; optional idle auto-pause from 60 s to 24 h, off by default | Auto-delete 60 s to 24 h after creation, or up to 12 h after scaling to zero |
| Billing | Per second: $0.03616363/vCPU-hr, $0.01159025/GiB-hr, $0.0001584/GB-hr storage; no egress fees, 50 GiB bandwidth budget per sandbox | Per second by instance, e.g. 2 vCPU / 4 GB eco-large at $0.0288/hr; Pro $29/month |
| GPU | No GPU | Platform GPUs from RTX 4000 SFF Ada to B200; GPU sandboxes not published |
Common Questions
Is Koyeb Sandbox generally available?
No. Koyeb labels its sandboxes public preview. Koyeb also announced in February 2026 that it is joining Mistral AI and will become part of Mistral Compute, and new users can only sign up for Pro and above.
Does a Koyeb sandbox keep memory when it sleeps?
Koyeb does not publish that. Its sandboxes scale to zero with light and deep sleep and wake on request, but memory preservation on sleep is not documented for sandboxes. CreateOS Sandbox pause saves disk, memory and CPU state, and vCPU stops billing while paused.
Can Koyeb sandboxes use GPUs?
Koyeb's platform offers GPUs from RTX 4000 SFF Ada through H100, H200 and B200, but GPU sandboxes are not published. CreateOS Sandbox has no GPU shapes, so neither is a documented choice for GPU code execution in a sandbox today.
