CreateOS Sandbox vs Opensteer

Opensteer suits developers who want Codex, Claude Code or Cursor to automate websites, starting on their own Chrome and moving to the cloud when needed. CreateOS Sandbox suits teams that need written limits before they commit: isolation model, concurrency per plan, session length and per-second rates are all published.

Pricing at a Glance

CreateOS rates verified 17 October 2026. Opensteer pricing as published on 17 October 2026. Rates billed per GB rather than per GiB, or as bundled sizes, are quoted as published rather than converted.

Opensteer

Browser runtime and computer runtime each cost $0.20 per hour, with managed models at API pricing, on plans from Developer ($0, $5/month platform credits) to Business at $200/month, as of 17 October 2026.

Where CreateOS Sandbox Fits Better

What CreateOS Sandbox brings to this matchup, with a plain note on where Opensteer has the edge.

Published concurrency per plan (1, 5, 20, 30) and no session lifetime cap; Opensteer publishes neither figure.

Coding agents come preinstalled: devbox:1 and desktop:1 carry OpenCode, Claude Code, Pi, Cursor CLI and Codex.

Firecracker micro-VM isolation is described in the security docs.

Where Opensteer is strong

A coding agent can drive the user's own local Chrome or an Opensteer Cloud browser through the same short Python commands, and project folders supply task-specific tools.

Which to Pick

Pick CreateOS Sandbox if

  • You need published concurrency, session and isolation details for a review.
  • You want coding agents to run in a remote VM with their own shell.
  • You need egress rules on agent traffic.

Pick Opensteer if

  • You want your existing coding agent to automate websites from your own machine first.
  • You want an MIT-licensed local runtime.
  • You want specialised agents run on schedules in Opensteer's cloud.

Head-to-Head Comparison

Every dimension side by side, checked on 17 October 2026 against each vendor's own docs and pricing pages. "Not published" means we could not find it on the vendor's pages, not that the feature is missing.

Common Questions

Does Opensteer publish session or concurrency limits?

No. Its pricing and open-source pages do not state concurrency, session length or isolation, and no public docs site was found. CreateOS publishes all three: 1 to 30 concurrent sandboxes by plan, no lifetime cap, and Firecracker micro-VM isolation.

Can Claude Code or Codex use Opensteer and CreateOS?

Yes. Opensteer is designed for coding agents such as Codex, Claude Code and Cursor to drive browsers. CreateOS's devbox:1 and desktop:1 images have OpenCode, Claude Code, Pi, Cursor CLI and Codex on the PATH, so the agent itself runs inside the sandbox.

Is Opensteer open source?

Its local runtime is, under the MIT license on GitHub, while the cloud is managed. CreateOS Sandbox is a managed service, with self-hosting only for Enterprise customers through the CreateOS team.
