CreateOS Sandbox vs Scaleway

Pick Scaleway if you want a long-lived EU server or GPU box at a very low hourly price with egress included. Pick CreateOS Sandbox if each agent task needs its own throwaway micro-VM, created by API, billed per second, and able to pause with memory intact or fork. Scaleway leaves the OS, security groups and cleanup to you.

Pricing at a Glance

CreateOS rates verified 17 October 2026. Scaleway pricing as published on 17 October 2026. Rates billed per GB rather than per GiB, or as bundled sizes, are quoted as published rather than converted.

Scaleway

Scaleway lists STARDUST1-S (1 vCPU, 1 GB) at EUR 0.0006/hour and DEV1-S (2 vCPU, 2 GB) at EUR 0.00898/hour before tax in Par-1, excluding public IPv4, as of 17 October 2026.

Where CreateOS Sandbox Fits Better

What CreateOS Sandbox brings to this matchup, with a plain note on where Scaleway has the edge.

Per-second billing on CreateOS against hourly billing on Scaleway Instances, which matters when an agent task lasts a few minutes.

Pause keeps disk, memory and CPU state; Scaleway snapshots cover volumes, and no memory-state snapshot appears on the pages checked.

Fork a paused sandbox straight into new copies, where Scaleway's route is snapshot, then image, then a new Instance.

Egress allowlists by hostname, enforced outside the VM; Scaleway security groups filter by protocol, port and IP range only.

Where Scaleway is strong

Scaleway's entry shapes are some of the cheapest anywhere (STARDUST1-S at EUR 0.0006/hour), list prices include egress, and one account reaches from tiny VMs up to H100 and B300 GPU Instances inside the EU.

Which to Pick

Pick CreateOS Sandbox if

  • Your agent creates and destroys an environment per task and you do not want to pay for a full hour each time.
  • You want to pause a half-finished agent run with its memory intact and resume or fork it later.
  • You want outbound traffic limited to a list of hostnames without writing firewall rules yourself.

Pick Scaleway if

  • You need a server that stays up for weeks, such as a web app, database or dev box, hosted in France, the Netherlands or Poland.
  • You need L4, L40S, H100 or B300 GPUs in the same account as your CPU machines.
  • You want ISO/IEC 27001 and HDS certified hosting in France (vendor-stated).

Common Questions

Is CreateOS Sandbox cheaper than a Scaleway STARDUST1-S instance?

For an always-on box, no. STARDUST1-S costs EUR 0.0006/hour, while a 1 vCPU / 1 GB CreateOS sandbox running 720 hours costs about $35.52 a month. CreateOS bills per second, so it only comes out ahead when sandboxes run for minutes and are then destroyed or paused.

Can a Scaleway Instance be paused with its memory kept?

Not on the pages checked. Powering off a Scaleway Instance pauses its compute billing and keeps storage, but no memory-state snapshot is documented. CreateOS pause saves disk, memory and CPU registers, stops vCPU billing and keeps charging for memory and storage while paused.

Does Scaleway charge for egress compared with CreateOS?

Scaleway says its list prices include egress, with bandwidth capped per Instance type, such as 100 Mbps on STARDUST1-S. CreateOS has no egress fees either, but each sandbox gets a 50 GiB outbound budget by default and traffic beyond it is dropped until you recharge with account credit.
