CreateOS Sandbox vs Baseten

Baseten is for companies serving their own or open models in production, with autoscaling, compliance and an optional self-hosted mode in their own VPC. CreateOS Sandbox is for running untrusted, agent-generated code in an interactive micro-VM with a shell, filesystem and egress controls. Baseten's unit is a model deployment; CreateOS's is a sandbox.

Pricing at a Glance

CreateOS rates verified 17 October 2026. Baseten pricing as published on 17 October 2026. Rates billed per GB rather than per GiB, or as bundled sizes, are quoted as published rather than converted.

Baseten

Baseten lists H100 80GB at $0.10833 per minute, B200 at $0.16633 per minute and a 1x2 CPU instance at $0.00058 per minute, with no charge at zero replicas, as of 17 October 2026.

Where CreateOS Sandbox Fits Better

What CreateOS Sandbox brings to this matchup, with a plain note on where Baseten has the edge.

A shell and filesystem per session for agent code, where Baseten replicas are stateless model servers.

Egress allowlists you set per sandbox; Baseten does not publish egress defaults outside self-hosted mode.

Pause and fork with memory state, which Baseten does not document.

Per-second billing against Baseten's per-minute billing.

Where Baseten is strong

Production-grade autoscaling for model inference, including scale to zero with per-minute billing, multi-node deployments over InfiniBand, SOC 2 Type II and HIPAA (vendor-stated), and a self-hosted option where the workload runs in your own VPC.

Which to Pick

Pick CreateOS Sandbox if

  • Your agent needs to run code it wrote, safely isolated.
  • You need sessions that keep files and can be paused.
  • You need hostname-based outbound rules.

Pick Baseten if

  • You serve LLM, speech or image models in production.
  • You want OpenAI-compatible Model APIs priced per token.
  • You need the workload to run in your own cloud account.

Common Questions

Can Baseten run in my own cloud account the way CreateOS self-hosting does?

Yes. Baseten offers self-hosted, in your cloud account and VPC, and hybrid options on Enterprise, and Truss is open source under MIT. CreateOS self-hosting is also enterprise-only, onboarded by our team into the managed data plane rather than installed self-serve.

Does Baseten charge when no replicas are running?

No. Baseten bills dedicated deployments per minute with no charge at zero replicas, and replicas scale to zero after a default scale-down delay of 900 seconds. CreateOS bills running sandboxes per second; paused ones bill memory and storage but not vCPU.

Is Baseten a sandbox for agent code?

No. Baseten's unit is a model deployment behind an HTTPS endpoint, with no interactive shell, per-session filesystem or egress controls documented. CreateOS provides that: a Firecracker micro-VM per task, with exec, file transfer, tunnels and outbound rules.
